Chris Li - Jeweller

A portable mini sculpture that perfectly expresses who I am.

This is a silver piece that I have made myself. I was influenced by my family heavily as they sparked my interest in jewellery crafting and have since started learning and creating on my own. I haven’t worn this piece for more than ten years now, yet it still holds an irreplaceable place in my heart. The piece itself doesn’t offer me any grandiose message nor significant meaning. It however gives me that sense of nostalgia you just can’t let go of. It’s like suddenly hearing your jam back in the days after ten years again.

I used to choose jewelleris for more superficial reasons, but since becoming a metal smith and jeweller myself. I now tend to give more attention to the techniques applied to each pieces and the grander creative motives behind. Though I seldom wear jewelleries myself due to work, I still love collecting pieces that are unique and eccentric, especially those with powerful messages and are meticulously crafted.

Contemporary jewellery to me is a form of self-expression, every piece created is like a portable mini sculpture that holds its creators' aesthetics and stories.I’m sure there are more intricacies that lie within each piece waiting for us to discover. If only we could be more patient and observant.
